The below individuals / organizations* are ones that are actively educating, creating new narratives, advocating for equity in the Cannabis industry, fighting for releases, commuted sentences, expungements, policy changes, and providing resources to minority communities.
You know the strains, but do you know the pains?
If you don't know, the 'War on Drugs' disproportionally affects black and brown communities. While the usage and the selling of 'drugs' are not inherently higher in minority communities, the arrests and sentences are.
Everyone deserves a second chance, especially when you weren't given a great, first chance to begin with. These individuals and organizations were a major part of our inspiration for La Sekand.
Our goal is to assist in giving sekand chances. Our 5 year goal is create and produce all in house, allowing us to hire and give second chances to people who have fallen victim to the War on Drugs.
Cage-Free Cannabis
Cage-Free Cannabis helps the cannabis industry and its consumers repair harms of the War on Drugs.
Cage-Free Cannabis is rooted in three kinds of justice:
- Reparative - They coordinate expungement events and support both people and organizations from communities harmed by the War on Drugs.
- Economic - They create jobs for communities of color and advocate for an equitable industry.
- Environmental - They promote a sustainable cannabis industry.
Cannaclusive
Cannaclusive was created to facilitate fair representation of minority cannabis consumers. They were inspired by the growing opportunities yet disappointed by the diversity issues taking root in mainstream cannabis culture. They celebrate the cultures of this thriving community through curated experiences, groundbreaking insights, thoughtful content and dynamic visuals. Cannaclusive makes it easier for brands to communicate with diverse audiences and ensure that minority consumers are not an afterthought, but a valued ally in the fight for legalization and destigmatization.
Cannabis Cultural Association
The Cannabis Cultural Association is 501(c)3 nonprofit based in NY which helps marginalized and underrepresented communities engage in the legal cannabis industry, emphasizing criminal justice reform, access to medical cannabis, and adult use legalization.
Canna Culture Connect
Canna Culture Connect provides a digital go-to for the latest and littest trends, products, and news in the rapidly growing cannabis industry. They hope to inform the nonbelievers about the various and holistic benefits of earth's fave flower while taking veteran ganja warriors to new plateaus.
The Cannabis Cutie
Tammy Pettigrew is a California-based cannabis advocate, educator, consultant & public speaker focusing on cannabis science, business, history, and debunking countless myths surrounding cannabis.
The Cannabis Doula
The mission of The Cannabis Doula is to support women and families who choose to consume cannabis by providing woman and family-centered cannabis education, support and certified cannabis caregiver services, in addition to holistic doula services and childbirth education. They are here to educate communities and support families in consuming cannabis as medicine, especially families who have been negatively impacted by the War on Drugs and Cannabis Prohibition. They advocate for safe cannabis consumption, harm reduction, safe access, and equity in cannabis for women and families.
EstroHaze
EstroHaze is founded by three lovely ladies, Kali Wilder, Sirita Wright, and Safon Floyd, hell-bent on a mission to highlight the multitude of lifestyle benefits of cannabis. They offer an educational portal where you can learn exactly how to incorporate cannabis into your life while lending you the tools, expertise, and guidance to do so.
Last Prisoner Project
The Last Prisoner Project was formed by a coalition of cannabis industry leaders, executives, and artists dedicated to bringing restorative justice to the cannabis industry. LPP was founded out of the belief that if anyone is able to profit and build wealth in the legal cannabis industry, those individuals must also work to release and rebuild the lives of those who have suffered from cannabis criminalization.
Minority Cannabis Business Association
The Minority Cannabis Business Association (MCBA) is a Oregon Registered not for profit business league created specifically to progress the cannabis industry by increasing diversity of owners, employees and consumers. Their mission is to create equal access for cannabis businesses and promote economic empowerment for communities of color by creating policy considerations, social programming, and outreach initiatives to achieve equity for the communities most affected by the war on drugs.
Supernova Women
Supernova Women is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2015 by Black and Brown women that works to empower Black and Brown people to become self-sufficient shareholders in the cannabis and natural plant medicine space through education, advocacy, and network building.
Tree Femme Collective
Tree Femme Collective is a mission-based creative studio and community of womxn, non-binary, and BIPOC creatives, educators, health and wellness professionals, and activists. Their work creates new narratives and conversations around cannabis while prioritizing inclusion.
